Each part of the South has its own unique character and has something to suit everyone. Whether you enjoy the thrill and excitement of yacht racing or the tranquility of gardens and stately homes the region has plenty of options to choose from. Even the South's historical locations are brimming with variety - you can touch and see Portsmouths Naval history at the Historic Dockyard, learn about famous authors like Jane Austen and Charles Dickens and discover what life was like in Roman Briton at sites like Fishbourne. Zoos and theme parks provide the perfect family day out with rides and animals that will delight youngsters and grandparents and everyone in between. Country parks and museums are the perfect relaxing day out. Many of the attractions showcased in the magazine will have enough to keep you occupied for the whole day.

ON THE MOVE Getting to the South couldn't be easier, whatever your mode of transport. Each area of the South Coast enjoys a regular and extensive local bus service and National Express provides a good coverarge of the area. Coastliner runs every 30mins Mon-Sat and hourly on Sundays and provides all-inclusive tickets to a number of the South Coast's top attractions. The region is also served by two international airports - Southampton International Airport and Bournemouth International Airport providing both domestic flights and routes across Europe. There is also plenty of ferry routes to choose from - Portsmouth offers routes to Caen, St Malo, Bilbao and Sandanter. You can sail to Cherbourg, St Malo, Guernsey and Jersey from Poole and there are routes to Guernsey and Jersey from Weymouth. Based on the Isle of Wight Hovertravel operates a service between Ryde and Southsea. It remains the quickest way to travel between the mainland and the IOW with an average journey time of just eigth and a half minutes.
